Fertility Clinic in New Jersey | Damien Fertility Partners

Fertility Specialist in New Jersey

New Jersey has roughly 20 fertility clinics operating across approximately 40 locations statewide. That density gives patients options, but it also makes the decision harder. The clinics that appear first in a search result are not always the ones best suited to your situation, and the differences between them are structural, not cosmetic.

Physician access, lab accreditation, treatment scope, and how a practice communicates with you in your own language all vary from one fertility clinic in New Jersey to the next.

Damien Fertility Partners is a SART member fertility practice with offices in Shrewsbury, Newark, and Jersey City. Founded in 1989 as East Coast IVF, the practice was the first successful IVF program in Monmouth and Ocean County. It has operated continuously under the same physician leadership for more than 35 years.

What Makes One Fertility Clinic Different From Another

Most fertility clinics in New Jersey offer similar treatments on paper. IVF, IUI, and egg freezing appear on almost every practice website. What differs is how those treatments are delivered, by whom, and under what conditions.

Whether you see the same doctor. At network practices with 10 or more physicians, patients may rotate through different doctors for monitoring appointments, retrievals, and transfers. That is efficient for the practice. It is not always reassuring for the patient. At Damien Fertility Partners, one physician stays with each patient from the first consultation through every procedure, a model the practice calls the “partner” approach.

What the lab can do. The embryology lab determines what happens to your eggs, sperm, and embryos during the most consequential days of treatment. Not all labs carry the same accreditations or use the same technology.

Damien Fertility Partners holds CAP accreditation (College of American Pathologists) and uses CHLOE by Fairtility for AI-powered embryo monitoring. The lab holds triple accreditation from CAP, the FDA, and the NJ State Department of Health, all with zero deficiencies.

Whether surgery stays in-house. Some fertility diagnoses require surgical intervention before or during treatment. If a clinic does not employ its own surgeons, you will be referred to a provider outside the practice. Damien Fertility Partners keeps surgery in-house through Dr. Nina Seigelstein, a board-certified OB/GYN specializing in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

Treatments available. Damien Fertility Partners offers IUI, IVF with fresh and frozen embryo transfer, donor egg and donor sperm programs, preimplantation genetic testing, egg freezing, gestational carrier IVF, family balancing, and reciprocal IVF across all three New Jersey locations.

The Clinical Team

A fertility clinic is only as strong as the physicians, embryologists, and nurses who staff it. At Damien Fertility Partners, the clinical team is structured around two board-certified reproductive endocrinologists, an in-house surgeon, and board-certified Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Miguel Damien, M.D. founded the practice in 1989. He trained at Dartmouth Medical School, completed his OB/GYN residency at Harvard Medical School, and holds REI fellowships from both Harvard and the University of Connecticut. Dr. Damien is board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, fluent in Spanish, and has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in the NY Metro Area six times.

Dr. Barry Perlman, D.O., FACOG joined in 2023. He is board-certified in REI with clinical interests in PCOS, ovarian aging, male factor infertility, fertility preservation, and the effects of endocrine disruptors on reproductive health. Dr. Perlman has published peer-reviewed research in ASRM’s Fertility and Sterility Reports. He sees patients in person and offers virtual consultations.

Dr. Nina Seigelstein, M.D. is a board-certified OB/GYN and minimally invasive surgery specialist. She also founded One World Women’s Health, a humanitarian organization through which she has led surgical mission trips to Sierra Leone, Ghana, Ladakh, and the Navajo Reservation. Her presence on the team means patients who need surgery before or alongside fertility treatment are not referred elsewhere.

Nurse Practitioners Gloria Lopez and Elizabeth Piercy manage monitoring and in-office procedures.

New Jersey’s Fertility Insurance Mandate

New Jersey is one of the most favorable states in the country for fertility patients from a coverage standpoint. The state has maintained a fertility insurance mandate since 2001, and a 2024 expansion aligned it with the ASRM definition of infertility, removed restrictions based on age, relationship status, and sexual orientation, and extended coverage to the State Health Benefits Program and the School Employees’ Health Benefits Program.

Qualifying group health plans covering 50 or more employees must now cover up to four completed egg retrievals per lifetime.

Damien Fertility Partners works with most insurance carriers and employs a dedicated bilingual Insurance Verification Specialist who confirms your coverage before treatment begins. For patients who need financial support beyond insurance coverage, the practice partners with CapexMD to offer fertility-specific loans ranging from $3,000 to $50,000. Medication discount programs through EMD Serono’s Compassionate Care Program and Merck’s Reuniterx program are also available.

Bilingual and Inclusive Care Across All Three Offices

Dr. Damien speaks fluent Spanish, and the clinical staff includes Spanish-speaking providers across all three offices. The entire website, including all service pages and the Fertility and Beyond blog, is published in both English and Spanish.

The practice’s Diversity and Inclusion commitment includes no BMI-based limitations on care, dedicated LGBTQ+ family-building pathways, and defined services for single parents by choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose a fertility clinic in New Jersey?

Focus on four structural factors: physician continuity (same doctor vs. rotating), lab accreditation and technology, surgical capability (in-house vs. referral), and language access. These differences affect your experience and outcomes more than marketing or location alone.

What treatments does Damien Fertility Partners offer?

The practice provides ovulation induction, IUI, IVF with fresh and frozen embryo transfers, donor egg and donor sperm programs, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), egg freezing, gestational carrier IVF, family balancing, reciprocal IVF, LGBTQ+ family building, and in-house minimally invasive surgery. All services are available across its three New Jersey locations.

Does Damien Fertility Partners accept insurance?

Yes. The practice works with most insurance carriers. New Jersey’s fertility mandate requires qualifying group health plans to cover up to four egg retrievals per lifetime. A bilingual Insurance Verification Specialist confirms coverage before your first appointment. Financing through CapexMD is also available.

How many fertility clinics are there in New Jersey?

New Jersey has approximately 20 distinct fertility practices operating across roughly 40 locations statewide. These range from single-physician offices to networks with more than 40 specialists and 11 or more sites.

What are the success rates at Damien Fertility Partners?

According to 2023 SART data, the practice reported an 81.8% live-birth rate per new patient for women under 35 using their own eggs, a 100% elective single-embryo transfer rate in that age group, and 660 total cycles. Full data is available through the SART clinic report. Clinic-to-clinic comparisons should be interpreted with caution due to differences in patient populations.

Start With the Right Clinic

The fertility clinic you choose in New Jersey determines the physician you work with, the lab that handles your embryos, the technology monitoring their development, and whether you will be treated as a partner in the process or a number in a queue. Damien Fertility Partners has operated on the same principle for more than 35 years: one doctor, one patient, one plan.
