Intrauterine insemination, or IUI, is a procedure where sperm is placed at the top of the uterine cavity, making it easier for them to reach a woman’s egg. This simple procedure is performed in the office and does not require anesthesia. A small catheter is used to place the sperm through the cervix and into the uterine cavity. This treatment is often one of the first fertility treatments for couples.

IUI (intrauterine insemination) places prepared sperm directly into the uterus and is typically a first-line, less invasive treatment for unexplained infertility or for single and same-sex parents using donor sperm.
